Artista visual y acumulador de imágenes con las que fabrica ritmos y movimientos. Mezcla técnicas de animación con procesos digitales de fotogrametría para producir sinestesia en actos en vivo.
Sus piezas de video y cortometrajes animados han sido expuestos en el Palais de Tokyo, Oberhausen Kurztfilmtage, Annecy, ANIMASIVO, Mutek, Central de Abastos, FICUNAM, Festival Int. de Videoarte de Camagüey, Parc la Villete, Fest Anca, … Es Ha colaborado con artistas como Nick Zinner, Lourdes Grobet, Los Viejos, Black Devil Disco Club, Noizekid, Tristán Arp y Café Tacvba, Noizekid, .Stendal, María Bonita.
Residente en la National Film Board NFB/ONF de Canadá en el 2014, becario del Jóvenes Creadores en el 2010, apoyado por Fundación Jumex 2021 y es cofundador de los grupos audiovisuales audiovisuales LINEA 2 , Volumétrica , TUTU y Viumasters †. Como docente se ha involucrado en talleres y grupos de estudio en Obrera Centro, CCD, CCEmx, Cráter Invertido, Kerem Tá, FARO Oriente y FARO Tláhuac. De lado de las plantas, coordina la Comunicación del Vivero de Tebanca A.C.
Esteban Azuela, Mexico 1984. The visual language and illusion of movement have been my tools and motivations for getting involved in animation, cinema, installations, and live projections with musicians. Founder of the art collectives and animation studios in Mexico: Viumasters, Volumetrica, Topote de Acahual, El Taller and LINEA 2. I’ve received funds and scholarships from federal and private institutions like FONCA /Young Artists Program, Support System for Creation and Cultural Projects (SACPC), JUMEX Contemporary Art Foundation, NFB Hothouse in Montreal. As an animation director of short films and music videos, my work has been shown in festivals like, Annecy, Oberhausen Kurzfilmtage, Animafest ZAGREB, Videoarte Camaguey Cuba, Ottawa OIAFF and my video installations in Parc La Villette, Paris;104 cent quatre, Paris; Prueba de Autor, Uruguay, CCU Tlatelolco, Mexico City; Supernova Denver Digerati, US. I perform as a VJ on rock and electronic venues such as MUTEK and Vive Latino, collaborating with musicians like Cafe Tacvba, Los Viejos, Black Rebel Disco Club, Tristan Arp, Nick Zinner, etc… On the side of the plants, I’m head of communications of Vivero de Tebanca A.C, a nursery that grows and propagates native plants in the Los Tuxtlas Biosphere Reserve.
